This page summarizes Sierra Pacific Windows Limited Warranty, Wood/Clad Residential Products, revised effective May 1, 2017; vinyl products document effective August 1, 2020. The manufacturer's document controls if anything here differs from it. Terms can change between revisions, so confirm the current version against your order paperwork.

Sierra Pacific is a Red Bluff, California manufacturer whose clad-wood windows show up throughout the Treasure Valley's higher-end housing from the 2000s onward. We are not a Sierra Pacific dealer, but we service and replace enough of them that we keep every version of the warranty on file, because the document that applies depends on when the unit was made, not when the house was built. Here is the current wood and clad residential document, effective for units manufactured since May 1, 2017, with the vinyl document and the older versions noted where they differ.

Glass and Wood

Dual-pane insulated glass is warranted for twenty years against failure of the air seal due solely to defects in workmanship or materials. Triple-pane glass gets ten. Laminated glass, including the FeelSafe security option, is covered for ten years against material obstruction of vision from delamination. Specialty, custom, leaded and decorative glass is five years, and all glass is covered against stress cracks from defects for two. Sierra Pacific does not warrant argon retention at all, and says a unit with capillary tubes must be treated as if it were air-filled.

The altitude clause is the strictest we track. Dual-pane glass without capillary tubes is excluded above 5,000 feet without factory pre-approval, which is the industry norm. Triple-pane glass without tubes is excluded above 2,200 feet, which is below Boise. A triple-pane Sierra Pacific unit anywhere in the Treasure Valley needed tubes or pre-approval to be covered. The 2014 to 2017 document was stricter still, at 4,000 feet for dual and 3,500 for argon.

Wood is where this warranty stands out. Wood components, regardless of species, are warranted for twenty years free from material deterioration caused by decay or insects, including rot. The 2014 document had no such term; it voided the warranty instead if the owner failed to finish and maintain the wood. Bare wood must still be finished within thirty days of delivery under the current document, and weathering of unfinished or primed wood is excluded.

The Clad Finish

Sierra Pacific's AAMA 2605 powder-coat cladding carries the longest headline term of any brand we compare, and it deserves to be read precisely. Thirty years against cracking or checking observed from ten feet. Twenty-five years against color change of more than seven delta E. Twenty years against color change of more than five delta E, chalking beyond an ASTM rating of eight, and loss of adhesion. Coverage is full for twenty years and then prorated, with Sierra Pacific paying 60 percent in years 21 through 24, 25 percent in years 25 through 27 and 5 percent in years 28 through 30, calculated against current list price for replacement product. A 2604 finish is ten years, anodized five, and the interior factory paint or stain two years against cracking, peeling, delaminating, blistering, flaking, chalking or a five delta E color change.

Parts and Labor

Everything else, including hardware, weatherstrip, standard screens and the wood components themselves, is warranted for ten years against defects that unreasonably affect normal functioning. Specialty screens made by others are one year.

Labor is two years from the date of manufacture, and it is conditional. If Sierra Pacific elects to repair or replace, it provides the labor at its own cost, with the scope decided in its sole discretion, and it excludes repainting, refinishing and similar work. Outside that window Sierra Pacific is not responsible for any labor. Freight is paid only to the place where the product was first delivered from the factory. The remedy itself is Sierra Pacific's choice of repair, replacement, or a refund of the lower of the purchase price or list price, and a replacement does not extend the term. An inspection fee may be charged when coverage is unclear, refundable if a defect is found.

The Vinyl Document

Sierra Pacific's 8000 and 8500 vinyl windows are covered by a separate document, effective for units made since July 2020. The vinyl mainframe is warranted for twenty years in a residence against rust, chipping, flaking, blistering or peeling, ten years in light commercial use. Dual glass is twenty years, triple ten, laminated ten, specialty five, stress cracks two. Hardware, weatherstrip and standard screens are ten years. The exterior painted finish is ten years against peeling, cracking, flaking and blistering and against ultraviolet discoloration beyond six delta E; color laminates added in 2020 carry ten years on color and adhesion. Labor is the same two years from manufacture. The altitude and argon language is identical to the wood document.

Exclusions and Claims

The exclusion list runs to forty items. The ones that matter most in our service work: products that have been altered or removed and reinstalled, which voids coverage on a window moved during a remodel; custom or oversize specifications; installation out of plumb or without shims; synthetic stucco without engineered drainage; failure to finish bare wood within thirty days; failure to re-caulk or replace weatherstrip; door warp under a quarter inch on standard doors or three-eighths on larger ones, with claims deferrable twelve months; and hardware corrosion from seacoast, corrosive or high-altitude conditions.

Claims must be in writing, within ninety days of when the problem became known or should have been known, and within the warranty period. Sierra Pacific asks for the owner's name and phone, the original order number, installed address, product description, proof of dwelling ownership, the dealer's name, and a description of the defect with the discovery date, mailed to PO Box 8489, Red Bluff, CA 96080. Customer service is 800-824-7744. The document also requires mediation and then binding arbitration in Sacramento for disputes, with a class action waiver and a twelve-month opt-out.

Wood Windows cannot file a Sierra Pacific claim for you, because we are not a dealer. What we do is repair and replace Sierra Pacific windows and doors across the Treasure Valley: reglazing a failed unit after the labor term has run, replacing rotted sash where the wood term does not reach, or quoting a like-for-like replacement from the brands we carry. Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Sierra Pacific clad finish really warranted for 30 years?

For one failure mode, yes. The AAMA 2605 powder-coat finish is warranted for thirty years against cracking or checking when viewed from ten feet. Color change is covered for twenty-five years at a seven delta E threshold and twenty years at five delta E, and chalking and peeling for twenty. Coverage is full for the first twenty years, then prorated: Sierra Pacific pays 60 percent of the cost in years 21 through 24, 25 percent in years 25 through 27 and 5 percent in years 28 through 30. Units ordered with the lower-cost AAMA 2604 finish get ten years, anodized finishes five, and the interior factory paint or stain two.

Does Sierra Pacific cover labor?

For two years from the date of manufacture, and only when Sierra Pacific decides to repair or replace rather than refund. The scope of the work is at Sierra Pacific's sole discretion, repainting and refinishing are never included, and the document says Sierra Pacific will not be responsible for any labor outside that period. Because the clock starts at manufacture rather than installation, a window that sat in a warehouse for six months has eighteen months of labor coverage left on the day it goes in. After year two, labor on a covered part is the homeowner's, which is where a local service company comes in.

Are Sierra Pacific windows covered at altitude in Idaho?

Dual-pane glass is covered to 5,000 feet without capillary tubes, so the Boise valley is fine. Triple-pane glass without capillary tubes is excluded above 2,200 feet, which is lower than any other manufacturer we follow and below Boise's own elevation of about 2,700 feet. A triple-pane Sierra Pacific unit in the Treasure Valley should have been ordered with capillary tubes or factory pre-approval to be covered, and one in McCall or Sun Valley certainly should have. Units made between 2014 and 2017 had a stricter rule: no coverage above 4,000 feet without tubes, 3,500 feet for argon-filled glass.

Does the Sierra Pacific warranty transfer?

Yes, for windows made since May 1, 2017: the warranty is available to the original purchaser and transferable to a subsequent owner of the same property for the remaining period, with no registration or fee stated. Windows made between April 2014 and April 2017 fall under a document that simply says it is transferable. Windows made between 2006 and 2014 fall under a document with no transfer statement, and those made before April 2006 were warranted to the original consumer only. The date of manufacture on the unit decides which document applies.

How do I make a Sierra Pacific warranty claim?

In writing, within 90 days of the date the problem first became known or should have been known, and within the warranty period. Sierra Pacific wants your name and phone, the original order number, the installed address, a product description, proof that you own the dwelling, the dealer or salesperson's name, and a description of the defect with the date you found it, mailed to Sierra Pacific Windows, Attn: Warranty Claim, PO Box 8489, Red Bluff, CA 96080. Customer service is 800-824-7744. Sierra Pacific may charge an inspection fee if coverage is unclear, refunded if a defect is found. Wood Windows is not a Sierra Pacific dealer, but we repair and replace Sierra Pacific windows and doors throughout the Treasure Valley when the warranty does not apply or when a homeowner wants a local crew; call (208) 376-2200.
