This page summarizes Marvin Limited Warranty (Ultimate, Modern, Vivid, Elevate, Essential windows and exterior doors) ↗ (document Part 19980996, revised effective January 12, 2026). The manufacturer's document controls if anything here differs from it. Terms can change between revisions, so confirm the current version against your order paperwork.
Marvin does something most window makers do not: it covers every residential collection with one four-page document. Ultimate, Modern, Vivid, Elevate, Essential, and the Scenic multi-slide and bifold doors all read from the same page, and the differences between them come from the materials, not the collection name. That makes the warranty easy to compare across a Marvin quote and easy to misread, because the headline number depends on which component you are asking about. Here is the document, effective January 2026, section by section.
Glass: Twenty Years, With a Size Limit
Standard insulating glass with stainless steel spacers is warranted against seal failure from a manufacturing defect that results in visible obstruction through the glass. That is the fogging, hazing or streaking between the panes that shows up on a west wall after fifteen summers. The term is twenty years for glass up to 60 square feet, and ten years for glass 60 square feet and larger. A 10-foot by 8-foot Scenic Door panel is 80 square feet, so the biggest glass on the house carries the shorter term. Non-tempered glass is also warranted against stress cracks for ten years. Tempered glass is not, and glass imperfections that meet ASTM standards and do not affect structural integrity are excluded.
Anything beyond standard glass, meaning laminated, art, special-order and other glass features, is passed through with whatever warranty Marvin receives from its supplier. Marvin also declines to warrant the amount of argon in the unit at any time after manufacture, and it treats condensation as a humidity problem rather than a defect.
Non-Glass Components: Ten Years Across the Board
Hardware and all other non-glass components are warranted free from manufacturing defects for ten years. Marvin does not carve out wood parts, weatherstrip or screens, so the whole assembly other than glass and finish sits under one term. Two additions matter for specific jobs. Marvin Connected Home motorized operators are covered for five years and factory-installed sensors for two. And parts Marvin designates obsolete at the time of sale drop to a one-year term, which comes up when a homeowner wants a discontinued hardware finish to match an older order.
Finish: Where the Collections Differ
This is the section that separates a Marvin Ultimate from a Marvin Essential. Marvin's standard exterior aluminum cladding finish, on Ultimate, Modern and the Scenic Doors, is warranted against chalk, fade and loss of adhesion to AAMA 2605 for twenty years. There is no 2604 tier in the document; 2605 is the only standard Marvin uses. Within a mile of salt water the term drops to ten years, and anodized or specialty finishes get five years anywhere.
Ultrex fiberglass exteriors, on Elevate, Essential and Vivid, are warranted to AAMA 625 for ten years. Interior finishes split by material: factory-applied wood finish is five years, factory-applied coated composite or coated aluminum interiors are ten years, and a primer-only interior is not covered at all unless it is painted within 90 days of installation. Bow, twist or warp in a door is not a defect unless it exceeds a quarter inch across the plane of the door, and wood doors eight feet or taller ordered without both sill and header locking hardware are not warranted against warp at all. Marvin may also defer action on a warp claim for up to twelve months to let the door acclimate.
What the Warranty Does Not Do
The exclusion list is standard for a premium manufacturer, with a few items worth knowing before you sign. Installation that does not follow Marvin's instructions, industry practice and code voids coverage, as do field-applied mulls and field finishes done wrong. Insulating glass above 5,000 feet without capillary tubes is excluded except as covered in the High Altitude Supplement, which matters for McCall, Cascade and Sun Valley work. Pools, saunas and other chlorine or high-humidity rooms are out. So are tinting films and third-party security products, brick wash, razor blades, structural settling, water infiltration not caused by a manufacturing defect, normal fading, wood color variation, and condensation, frost, mold or mildew.
Then the labor clause. Marvin's remedy is to repair or replace the product or component, or refund its price. Removal, installation, finishing, refinishing and disposal are not included, and Marvin's liability is capped at the price paid for the affected part. Marvin covers the window. The work of getting a new sash or glass unit into your wall is between you and your dealer.
The Sixty-Day Rule and How We Handle Claims
One clause in this document trips up more homeowners than any exclusion. All warranty claims must be made within sixty days of the appearance of the defect. A fogged pane noticed in February and reported in June can be denied on timing alone. If you see something, call. Wood Windows opens the claim with Marvin as your dealer, provides the order number and product details from our records, and schedules one of our own installers when the part arrives in Garden City. There is no third-party service network between you and the factory. If a dealer has not responded within five days, Marvin accepts written requests directly at PO Box 100, Warroad, MN 56763, and by phone at 800-533-6898.
Marvin asks for the purchase date, dealer name, order number, product description, a specific description of the problem, and what has been done so far. Registering the order at warranty.marvin.com is optional and does not affect coverage, but it puts the order on file. The warranty runs to the owner of the structure and is fully transferable, so a buyer of your home inherits whatever is left of each term with no paperwork.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Marvin's warranty cover labor?
No. The document says Marvin will, at its option, repair or replace the product or component or refund the price paid, and that removal, installation, finishing, refinishing and disposal costs and services are not included. Marvin's own warranty page adds that there may be charges for parts or labor when a dealer services a claim. In practice, if Wood Windows sold and installed the windows, we open the claim, receive the part, and schedule our own installer. Whether that visit is billed depends on the age of the job and what we agreed at the sale, and we tell you before anyone drives out.
How long is Marvin's glass warranty?
Twenty years against seal failure for insulating glass up to 60 square feet, ten years for glass 60 square feet and larger, and ten years against stress cracks in non-tempered glass. The clock runs from the original purchase date and does not reset when a unit is replaced. Laminated, art and special-order glass carry whatever warranty Marvin's glass supplier gives Marvin, so ask us for the specific terms if you are ordering something unusual.
Is the Marvin warranty transferable when I sell my house?
Yes, fully. The warranty extends to the owner of the structure in which the products are originally installed and is fully transferable, with no registration, fee or shortened term for the next owner. Registering the order at warranty.marvin.com is optional but makes a later claim faster.
Are Marvin windows warranted at high altitude in Idaho?
Only with the right glass. Marvin excludes insulating glass installed above 5,000 feet without capillary tubes, except as provided in its High Altitude Supplement. Boise sits around 2,700 feet, so valley jobs are unaffected. McCall, Cascade and the Wood River Valley are all above 5,000 feet, and we order those units to Marvin's capillary tube guidelines so the glass stays covered.
How do I file a Marvin warranty claim?
Claims must be made within 60 days of the defect appearing and inside the applicable warranty period, so call us as soon as you notice a problem rather than waiting for a convenient season. Wood Windows opens the claim with Marvin as your dealer at (208) 376-2200. If your dealer is unresponsive after five days, Marvin accepts written requests at PO Box 100, Warroad, MN 56763, or by phone at 800-533-6898. Have the purchase date, order number, product description and a clear description of the problem ready.
