This page summarizes JELD-WEN Window & Patio Door Limited Warranty ↗, revised effective for products manufactured on or after June 1, 2019. The manufacturer's document controls if anything here differs from it. Terms can change between revisions, so confirm the current version against your order paperwork.
JELD-WEN is the window in more Treasure Valley subdivisions than any other brand, because for two decades it was the builder's default. We are not a JELD-WEN dealer. We repair and replace JELD-WEN windows and patio doors every week, and the warranty conversation is usually the first one we have on the porch. JELD-WEN covers every window and patio door it has made since June 2019 with a single document, with the terms varying by material. Here is what it says, and what it says to the second owner of a fifteen-year-old house.
One Document, Four Materials
The warranty promises that if a product exhibits a defect in material or workmanship within the stated period from the date of manufacture, JELD-WEN will at its option repair, replace or refund. For the original owner-occupant of a single-family home, vinyl and metal-clad vinyl products, which is the V-4500, V-2500 and Premium Vinyl lines, are covered for as long as you own and occupy your residence. Wood and metal-clad wood, the Siteline and W-series lines, are twenty years. Auraline composite is ten years on the product and twenty on the glass. Aluminum is ten. In a rental or commercial building, wood stays at twenty, composite and vinyl drop to ten, and aluminum to two.
Glass is part of the product. On vinyl there is no separate seal term; a fogged unit is a defect covered for the owner's lifetime. AuraLast pine, JELD-WEN's treated wood, is warranted against decay and termite damage for as long as the original owner occupies the home, twenty years commercially, excluding non-pine species and wood in contact with soil.
Labor: Two Years
JELD-WEN provides skilled labor, where it deems it necessary, for two years from manufacture on vinyl, wood and composite and one year on aluminum. Skilled labor is defined as work requiring specialized technical knowledge, methods or tools to diagnose or correct a product issue. Repainting, refinishing, removal and disposal are excluded at any time. So is labor at a home more than 125 miles from an authorized dealer, at a site not accessible by road, or requiring scaffolding or a lift. After year two, and at any age in much of mountain Idaho, JELD-WEN ships the part and the labor is yours.
Breakage, Stress Cracks and Special Glass
JELD-WEN is one of two manufacturers on our comparison that covers accidental glass breakage as standard, and the condition is easy to miss: the unit must have been ordered with double-strength or thicker glass. Standard-thickness builder glass does not qualify, and ImpactGard and special glazings are excluded along with acts of nature, settling, structural failure, improper installation, and job-site or handling damage. Stress cracks, defined as a crack with no sign of impact in the first year after manufacture, are covered for one year including the labor to replace the glass.
Special glass carries its own terms: triple-glazed units twenty years including the seal, ImpactGard ten, blinds between the glass ten including the mechanism, and laminated or decorative glazings five. Electric operators are one year with labor and retractable screens five. The document says nothing about altitude or capillary tubes, so a JELD-WEN unit in McCall is governed by the same terms as one in Meridian.
Finish
Metal cladding on wood products follows the AAMA classes: 2605 finishes thirty years, 2603 and 2604 finishes ten, anodized five, against peeling, checking, cracking, chalk beyond an ASTM rating of eight and fade beyond five delta E. Colored and laminated surfaces on vinyl and composite are ten years against peeling, blistering, flaking and excessive color change. The factory interior finish on wood is one year, with a remedy that may be a refinishing credit of $50 per window or $100 per patio door.
Transfer: Ten Years From Manufacture
The transfer row in JELD-WEN's table is labeled as the maximum length of any coverage when you sell your residence or it becomes occupied by other than the original owner: ten years for wood, composite and vinyl, and none for aluminum. Because the clock started at manufacture, a buyer of a 2014 house with V-2500 windows has no JELD-WEN coverage today, and a buyer of a 2020 house has until 2030 whatever the seller's paperwork says. The lifetime term is real, but it belongs to one household.
Exclusions and Claims
The exclusion list is conventional: normal wear including weatherstrip and hardware finish, brick wash and salt spray, films and tints, non-JELD-WEN hardware, storm windows that trap heat, improper installation and water infiltration from installation or building design, condensation unless caused by glass failure, argon dissipation, screen damage, and heat reflection damage to neighboring siding. Claims are denied with a possible inspection fee, and disputes go to arbitration in Charlotte under North Carolina law with a thirty-day opt-out. No dealer can modify the warranty.
Claims go to the selling dealer or directly to JELD-WEN Customer Care at 888-594-3578, jeldwenwarranty@jeld-wen.com, or the form at jeld-wen.com, with the product identification from the order, label, spacer code or the window identification number etched in the glass corner, plus the address, a description and photographs. JELD-WEN acknowledges within three business days and begins action within thirty.
Wood Windows cannot file that claim. What we do is the work JELD-WEN stops paying for after year two: reglazing fogged V-2500 sliders, replacing worn balances and rollers, and, when the count of failures says so, quoting a like-for-like replacement from the vinyl we carry and service ourselves. Frequently Asked Questions
Is the JELD-WEN vinyl warranty really lifetime?
For the original owner-occupant, yes: V-4500, V-2500 and Premium Vinyl windows and patio doors are covered against defects in material or workmanship for as long as you own and occupy your residence, glass included. The moment the home is sold or rented out, that becomes ten years from the date of manufacture, and once ten years have passed a later owner has nothing. Every JELD-WEN term runs from the manufacture date rather than the purchase or installation date, which you can read from the label or the window identification number etched in the corner of the glass. On a builder home that sat six months, the clock was running before you moved in.
Does JELD-WEN cover labor?
Skilled labor for two years from manufacture on vinyl, wood and composite, one year on aluminum, where JELD-WEN deems it necessary. Skilled labor means tasks that need specialized knowledge, methods or tools to diagnose and correct a product issue. Repainting, refinishing, removal and disposal are excluded at any time, and so is labor after the two years. JELD-WEN also excludes homes more than 125 miles from an authorized dealer, sites not accessible by road, and any lift or scaffolding. After year two JELD-WEN supplies the part and you supply the labor, which is the gap a local service company fills.
Does JELD-WEN cover broken glass?
Yes, with conditions, and it is one of the few that does. Accidental glass breakage is covered for the same term as the product, but only on units ordered with double-strength or thicker glass, and never on ImpactGard or special glazings. Breakage from acts of nature, civil disorder, settling, structural failure, improper installation, job-site mishaps or handling is excluded. Stress cracks, a crack with no sign of impact in the first year after manufacture, are covered for one year with the labor to replace the glass. Fogging between the panes is a seal defect under the basic product coverage, so on vinyl it is covered for the original owner's lifetime.
How does the JELD-WEN warranty compare with Milgard's?
They were once nearly identical, and they have moved apart in opposite directions. Both give the original owner-occupant lifetime coverage on vinyl and ten years to a later owner. JELD-WEN includes accidental breakage on double-strength glass as standard and pays skilled labor for two years. Milgard, since January 2026, pays skilled labor for ten years but sells breakage only as a paid upgrade on three lines. JELD-WEN's document is silent on altitude; Milgard's older documents excluded glass above 5,000 feet. For a Treasure Valley home the practical difference is the labor term: JELD-WEN's runs out fast, and JELD-WEN's exclusion for homes more than 125 miles from a dealer matters in Idaho's mountain towns.
How do I make a JELD-WEN warranty claim?
Through the dealer or contractor who sold the product, or directly to JELD-WEN Customer Care at 888-594-3578, jeldwenwarranty@jeld-wen.com, or the warranty form on jeld-wen.com. Have the product identification from the original order, the spacer code, the label or the window identification number in the corner of the glass, plus the address, a description and photos. JELD-WEN acknowledges within three business days and begins action within thirty. Wood Windows is not a JELD-WEN dealer and cannot file for you, but we repair and replace JELD-WEN windows and doors throughout the Treasure Valley, including the builder-grade V-2500 sliders in thousands of 2000s subdivisions; call (208) 376-2200.
