This page summarizes Pella Wood Window & Wood Patio Door Limited Warranty (Lifestyle, Reserve, Architect Series) ↗ (document WPW0118, revised purchases on or after December 1, 2020; vinyl document WVP0217 effective August 29, 2023). The manufacturer's document controls if anything here differs from it. Terms can change between revisions, so confirm the current version against your order paperwork.
Pella is the window brand Treasure Valley homeowners most often bring to us for service, because Pella sells through Lowe's and its own branches rather than through independent dealers like us. We are not a Pella dealer. We repair and replace Pella windows and doors, and the warranty comes up on every call. Pella publishes one document per material rather than per series: Lifestyle, Reserve and Architect Series share the wood document, and 250 Series, Encompass, Hurricane Shield and Defender share the vinyl document. Both use the word lifetime, and both define it in a way that ends sooner than most owners expect.
Wood Products: Lifetime, Nontransferable
For the original purchaser who owns and occupies a single-family home, Pella's wood windows and doors carry a limited lifetime warranty on what the document calls basic coverage: defects in materials or workmanship that significantly impair operation and function, plus wood deterioration, termite damage, and cracking or peeling of the EnduraClad aluminum cladding away from the seacoast. Nonlaminated insulated glass is also limited lifetime, under the same defect standard. There is no separate seal-failure clause; a fogged unit is treated as a defect. Laminated glass, hardware, screens, blinds and shades are ten years and transfer. The interior factory finish is two years. In a rental or any home the owner does not occupy, basic coverage is ten years and glass is twenty.
The cladding finish has its own table. EnduraClad is warranted ten years against chalk beyond an ASTM rating of six and fade beyond five delta E, a term that was only two years before December 2020. EnduraClad Plus is twenty years, nontransferable. Anodized finishes have no chalk or fade coverage at all. Within two miles of the seacoast, standard EnduraClad has no corrosion, crack or peel coverage; EnduraClad Plus has ten years.
Vinyl Products: Lifetime Frame, Twenty-Year Glass
The 250 Series and Encompass document warrants non-glass materials and workmanship free of defects that significantly impair proper operation for as long as the original buyer owns and occupies the home. Nonlaminated glass is warranted for twenty years from the date of sale against premature failure or permanent material obstruction of vision due to a failed seal, and that term transfers. Laminated glass is ten years, blinds between glass five, and the laminate exterior color ten years against checking, cracking or peeling, with Pella allowed to refinish rather than replace. Exterior surrounds made with AZEK trim carry twenty-five years against rot and swelling.
The Ten-Year Reset
This is the clause that turns Pella's lifetime into something shorter. On both documents, the nontransferable lifetime terms are automatically replaced with a transferable ten-year limited warranty when the original purchaser transfers ownership or ceases to occupy the home. The ten years run from the date of the original sale to the original purchaser, not from the transfer. Pella's own example in the wood document: if the sale happens more than ten years after the windows were bought, there is no remaining warranty for the subsequent owner. The vinyl glass term is the one component that survives a sale intact, because it was twenty years and transferable from the start.
Labor: Two Years
Every remedy clause in Pella's documents includes the cost of labor only within two years of the date of sale by Pella or its authorized dealer. After year two Pella supplies the part; shipping is free for the first two years, and after that the part goes to the closest Pella service location for the homeowner to pick up, or ships direct at the homeowner's expense. Pella also sells a ten-year installation warranty and service agreement, marketed as the Pella Care Guarantee, with a two-year installation defect warranty and a $75-per-unit service call for the following eight years. It applies only to purchases made through a Pella-owned sales branch, not to windows bought at Lowe's or installed by a Pella Certified Contractor or independent installer.
Exclusions Worth Knowing
Pella's exclusion lists are long and conventional, with a few items that matter to a homeowner who did not buy from a branch. Repairs or modifications performed by anyone other than Pella or its subcontractors are excluded on the wood document, as is any damage resulting from them. Altered or reinstalled products are excluded on every document. Finishes applied by a local dealer or contractor are not covered. Glass breakage that is not Pella's fault, including breakage that causes seal failure, is excluded, along with condensation, frost and mold, aftermarket films, and minor glass imperfections. Barrier walls such as synthetic stucco void coverage outside a handful of Southwestern states. Notably absent from all three documents: any altitude limit or capillary tube requirement, which is unusual among the brands we follow.
Claims, and Where We Fit
Claims go directly to Pella, with no dealer-first step and no registration requirement. File through the service request form on pella.com, call 877-473-5527 for wood products or 800-374-4758 for vinyl and Impervia, or write to Customer Service at 102 Main Street, Pella, IA 50219. Pella asks for the serial number on the insulating glass spacer or the unit identification number in the lower left corner of the glass, the purchase date and location, photos and a description. Notice must arrive within one year of discovering the defect, and Pella may charge for an inspection.
Wood Windows cannot file a Pella claim. In the first two years we will tell you to call Pella, because the labor is free. After that, and for anything Pella excludes, we repair and replace Pella windows and doors across the Treasure Valley, and we are careful to tell you which of Pella's third-party-repair exclusions applies to the work before we begin. Call (208) 376-2200.
Frequently Asked Questions
What happens to the Pella lifetime warranty when I sell the house?
It becomes a ten-year warranty, and the ten years are counted from the original sale, not from your closing. Pella's documents say the nontransferable lifetime terms are automatically replaced with a transferable ten-year limited warranty upon transfer of ownership or when the original purchaser stops occupying the home. Pella's own example is blunt: if the sale happens more than ten years after the windows were bought, there is no remaining coverage for the subsequent owner. The vinyl document's twenty-year glass term is the exception; it transfers as written. If you are buying a home with Pella windows, the date on the original order matters more than the word lifetime.
Does Pella cover labor?
For two years from the date of sale, on every product line. Each remedy clause in the wood, vinyl and Impervia documents includes the cost of labor only within two years. After that, Pella supplies the part, and for two more years ships it free; beyond that the part is delivered to the closest Pella service location for the homeowner to pick up, or shipped direct at the homeowner's expense. Pella's separate ten-year installation warranty and service agreement, with its $75-per-unit service calls, applies only to purchases made through a Pella-owned sales branch, not through Lowe's or independent contractors.
Are Pella windows warranted against seal failure?
On vinyl, explicitly: the 250 Series and Encompass glass is warranted for twenty years against premature failure or permanent material obstruction of vision due to failure of the glass seal. On wood products such as Lifestyle Series, insulated glass is covered under the general standard of a defect in materials or workmanship that significantly impairs operation and function, for the original owner's lifetime, with no separate seal clause. In practice Pella treats fogging between the panes as a defect on both. What none of the Pella documents mention is altitude: there is no capillary tube requirement and no elevation limit, which is unusual and works in favor of Idaho mountain homes.
Can Wood Windows repair my Pella windows without voiding the warranty?
Repair by a third party does not void a Pella warranty outright, but read the exclusions before you decide. The wood document excludes damage resulting from repairs or modifications performed by anyone other than Pella or its subcontractors, and all three documents exclude altered or reinstalled products and finishes applied by a local dealer or contractor. So a reglazed sash or a swapped balance done by us is fine for the part we touched, but Pella will not cover a later problem it can trace to that work. Our practice is to tell you which of those situations applies before we start, and to steer covered defects in the first two years back to Pella, where the labor is free.
How do I make a Pella warranty claim?
Directly with Pella; there is no dealer-first requirement and Pella does not require registration. File online through the service request at pella.com, call 877-473-5527 for wood products or 800-374-4758 for vinyl and Impervia, or write to Pella Corporation, Customer Service Department, 102 Main Street, Pella, IA 50219. Pella wants the serial number on the insulating glass spacer or the unit identification number in the lower left corner of the glass, the purchase date and location, a description of the problem with photos, and what has been tried. Notice must reach Pella within one year of discovering the defect, and Pella may charge for an on-site inspection.
