Andersen Big Door Warranty: Liftslide, Bifold, MultiGlide & Folding

Coverage at a Glance

Terms below are taken directly from the manufacturer's written limited warranty. All periods run from the date of purchase from the retailer or dealer.

Andersen's big doors, the liftslide, pivot, bifold, MultiGlide and folding systems that open a wall to a patio, are not covered by the 400 Series or E-Series documents. They have three warranties of their own, one for liftslide, pivot, Beefy Bifold and swing doors and the custom windows built with them, one for MultiGlide multi-slide doors, and one for outswing folding doors. The core terms are the same and match the E-Series in spirit. The differences are at the edges, in the wood, the screens and the finish options, and on a product this expensive the edges are worth reading.

The Shared Core

All three documents warrant factory-glazed glass for twenty years against manufacturing defects and against material obstruction of vision from premature failure of the glass or organic seal. The exclusions on big door glass are broader than on a window, because the panels are bigger: special-order glazings, curved glass, discontinued glass, jumbo glass, impact-resistant glass and glass not factory installed are all outside the twenty-year term. Stormwatch impact units carry ten years.

Non-glass components are ten years: rollers, hardware, locks, hinges, weatherstripping and the panel and frame members. The MultiGlide document excludes the satin nickel hardware finish specifically. Exterior painted aluminum in Andersen's 2605 Kynar coating system is warranted for twenty years not to crack, check, peel, flake, blister or lose adhesion, and for twenty years against fade greater than five delta E and chalking greater than eight. Anodized finishes are five years. Coastal installations are reduced and prorated as on the E-Series.

Where the Documents Differ

The liftslide, pivot, bifold and swing door document, revised March 2021, covers all-wood exteriors for two years. That is the shortest exterior term anywhere in Andersen's residential lineup, and it is a direct statement about how much finishing and maintenance a large unclad wood panel demands. It also notes that color inconsistency in an anodized finish is a feature of the finish and not a defect, and it makes the cost of safe and reasonable access to the product the owner's responsibility.

The MultiGlide document, revised June 2022, is the only one of the three that describes Andersen's 2604 coating system alongside 2605, because MultiGlide doors can be ordered in either. Under 2604 the adhesion term is twenty years and the fade and chalk term is ten; under 2605 both are twenty. It also introduces a five-year warranty on retractable screen doors for big doors.

The outswing folding door document, revised February 2026, is the newest. It carries the same twenty-year glass, ten-year component, twenty-year 2605 finish and five-year retractable screen terms, and adds a new exclusion for improper use and maintenance of the big door retractable screens, which on a folding door is a long, fabric-and-track assembly that is easy to abuse.

Labor and Access

The first two years belong to the dealer. Buy an Andersen big door through an authorized Andersen dealer and Andersen covers the labor on covered warranty repairs for two years, parts and our installers' time together. Wood Windows is that dealer for the Treasure Valley, and on a door whose panels take three people and a glass lifter to move, that coverage is the single strongest reason to buy through us rather than through a lumberyard. After two years the written documents govern, and they are parts only.

Every one of these documents gives Andersen the same three remedies: provide the replacement part to the dealer you specify, with labor not included, provide a factory-authorized repair at no cost, or refund the original purchase price. Labor to replace panels, glass or components, removal and disposal, and finishing or carpentry afterward are excluded, and the liftslide document adds the cost of access. On a door whose individual panels can weigh several hundred pounds and whose performance depends on rollers, tracks and sill alignment set to a fraction of an inch, that labor is not trivial. Exclusions

Beyond the standard Andersen list of tinting films, units mulled by others, non-Andersen hardware, improper installation, exposure beyond specifications, water infiltration not caused by a defect, condensation, brick wash, salt and acid rain, accidents and normal wear, the big door documents share the E-Series additions: a storm door over the unit, glazing by others, building movement, fade of five delta E or less even when uneven, and stress cracks, thermal shock cracks and broken glass. Because these doors are often built to custom specifications, a unit built to a special or non-standard specification is excluded from the warranty.

Transfer and Claims

All three documents are Owner-To-Owner, with each coverage section a Transferable Limited Warranty. A later owner receives the balance of every term from the original purchase date. That is worth weighing against Milgard's moving glass wall warranty, which does not transfer, when the two systems are on the same quote.

Claims start with the selling dealer. If Wood Windows installed the door, call (208) 376-2200 and our Garden City office opens the claim against the original order. Andersen takes claims directly at 1-888-888-7020 and asks for the exterior color, unit type and size, inside visible glass measurements, the etched glass logo and the purchase date. An inspection fee may apply when coverage is unclear, waived if a covered defect is found.
