The A-Series is Andersen's premium clad-wood window, and its warranty is where Andersen writes its longest finish terms outside the E-Series. The glass and component sections match the rest of the lineup. The finish section is the reason to read this document, because it contains a twenty-year adhesion promise, a lifetime corrosion promise, and the only place in Andersen's residential warranties where refinishing labor is expressly included. The current revision is September 2023, which added triple-pane glass to the covered list and otherwise left the 2020 terms intact.
Glass and Components: The Familiar Terms
Factory-glazed A-Series glass is warranted free from manufacturing defects for twenty years, and not to develop material obstruction of vision or stress cracks from manufacturing defects or premature seal failure over the same period. The covered list includes dual- and triple-pane, Low-E4 in its Sun, SmartSun, PassiveSun and HeatLock variants, patterned glass, Finelight grilles and tempered versions. Excluded are special-order glazings, art glass, impact-resistant glass, glass with integral blinds, discontinued glass and glass not factory installed. Stormwatch impact units and patio doors with blinds between the glass each carry ten years instead.
Non-glass components are ten years: operators, locks, lifts, balance systems, hinges, handles, insect screens, weatherstripping, exterior trim, and the sash and frame members, which is where the wood interior lives. Electric operators, retractable insect screens and bright brass or satin nickel hardware finishes are excluded and carry their own documents. Corrosion-resistant hardware and outswing door hinges get a dedicated ten-year term covering mechanical failure and, for the hinges, a finish warranty against tarnish, peeling, pitting, flaking, discoloration and corrosion.
The Finish Section
The A-Series exterior is a fiberglass-composite cladding with a factory-applied color finish, and Andersen warrants it in three parts. Adhesion: the finish is warranted not to flake, blister, crack, peel, pit, corrode or lose adhesion for twenty years. Fade: the finish is warranted free from manufacturing defects that cause color fade greater than five delta E on the Hunter scale, measured to ASTM D2244, for ten years. Corrosion: the exterior coating is warranted not to develop corrosion caused by an electrolytic chemical reaction involving atmospheric salts for as long as the product is installed in its original structure.
That third term is written with coastal homes in mind, and Idaho has no salt air to speak of, but it is nonetheless a lifetime promise on the coating and it travels with the house. The finish warranty excludes screen frames, sills, hinges, handles, trim sets, locks, exterior trim profiles, aluminum coil stock, and the insert panels of complementary doors.
Remedy: Where Labor Appears
Start with the part Andersen's document does not mention. Buy A-Series windows through an authorized Andersen dealer, and Andersen covers the labor on covered warranty repairs for the first two years in addition to the parts. Wood Windows is that dealer for the Treasure Valley, so a seal failure or hardware defect in years one and two costs our customers nothing, part or labor. That coverage is why the same window bought from a dealer is worth more than the same window bought off a shelf, and it is the first thing we tell an A-Series buyer about the warranty.
Inside the written document, labor appears in one place. For a covered finish defect, Andersen may at its option refinish the product, and here the document says labor is included, with the caveat that the finish will be applied with standard commercial refinishing techniques and may not match the original. Or Andersen may repair the product, provide replacement parts to the dealer you specify without labor, or refund the purchase price. For glass and components the remedies are the usual three: replacement to the dealer without labor, a factory-authorized repair at no cost, or a refund. Repairs and replacements carry the balance of the original term.
Outside the refinish option, the labor exclusions are the standard Andersen set: labor to replace sash, panels, glass or other components, removal and disposal, and painting, staining or carpentry afterward. The A-Series adds that the owner bears the cost of obtaining safe and reasonable access to the product, so a lift for a high picture window is not Andersen's expense.
Exclusions Specific to This Document
Beyond the common list of tinting films, non-Andersen hardware, improper installation, exposure beyond specifications, water infiltration not caused by a defect, condensation, brick wash, salt and acid rain, accidents and normal wear, the A-Series document names two extra exclusions. Installing a storm door over or with an A-Series patio door voids coverage on that door, because the trapped heat degrades the finish and the glass seals. And the general exclusion for failure to seal exposed wood matters more on a clad-wood window than a composite one: the interior is real wood and keeping it finished is the owner's job.
Transfer and Claims
Every coverage section is a Transferable Limited Warranty under Andersen's Owner-To-Owner program. A later owner receives the balance of each term, and the corrosion coverage continues as long as the window remains where it was installed. Claims start with the dealer who sold the product. Andersen takes claims directly at 1-888-888-7020 as well. Bring the exterior color, unit type and size, inside visible glass measurements, the etched glass logo and the purchase date. An inspection fee may apply when coverage is unclear, waived if a covered defect is found.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does the A-Series finish warranty compare with the 100 Series?
It is twice as long on adhesion. The A-Series fiberglass-composite exterior is warranted for twenty years not to flake, blister, crack, peel, pit, corrode or lose adhesion, against ten years on the 100 Series Fibrex finish. Both carry the same ten-year fade term of five delta E measured to ASTM D2244. The A-Series adds a corrosion promise the 100 Series does not have at all: the exterior coating is warranted against electrolytic corrosion from atmospheric salts for as long as the window stays in the house it was installed in. That last term is written for coastal buyers, but it is a lifetime promise on the coating, which is rare.
Does Andersen include labor on A-Series warranty work?
Yes, two ways. First, buy through an authorized Andersen dealer like Wood Windows and Andersen covers the labor on covered warranty repairs for the first two years, part and installer's time both. That is a dealer benefit, not a product term, and a big-box purchase does not get it. Second, the written warranty itself includes labor for one remedy: If a covered finish defect occurs, Andersen may refinish the product, and the document states that labor is included, with the note that the refinish uses standard commercial techniques and may not match the factory finish. Andersen can instead repair, ship replacement parts to the dealer without labor, or refund. For glass and non-glass components the remedy is parts to the dealer without labor, a factory-authorized repair at no cost, or a refund. Is the wood interior of an A-Series window warranted?
As a component, for ten years. The A-Series document has no separate interior wood or interior finish section; the pine, maple, oak or other interior species is part of the sash and frame members covered under the ten-year non-glass warranty against manufacturing defects. Natural variation in wood color and grain is not a defect, and the general exclusion for failure to seal exposed wood applies, so a factory or field finish on the interior is your responsibility. The E-Series, by contrast, names interior wood explicitly at ten years and exterior wood at five.
Does the A-Series warranty transfer to the next homeowner?
Yes. Every coverage section is headed Transferable Limited Warranty and the document is branded Owner-To-Owner. The new owner receives the balance of each term from the original purchase date, and the lifetime corrosion coverage continues as long as the window remains in the original structure regardless of who owns it. Registration is optional.
What is excluded on the A-Series that surprises people?
