TimberVu appears in contemporary custom builds around the foothills and Eagle, usually specified by an architect and supplied through a builder; this page is for the people who live behind that glass now.

What the TimberVu Actually Is

Call it a wood window and you'll misunderstand it. TimberVu is built on Quaker's patented OptiCore frame — a 4-1/8" architectural-grade aluminum extrusion with an Azo-Core polyurethane thermal barrier cast into it and sealant-injected double corner keys at the joints. The pine on the room side is a genuine wood interior you can stain or paint, but it is not what holds the glass up. The aluminum does that, which is how a residential window ends up with commercial AW performance grades, 2-7/8" sightlines and direct sets to 144" x 144".

Quaker Windows & Doors developed OptiCore for its commercial and Quartz luxury divisions and brought it to the residential catalog in TimberVu (wood interior) and its twin CityVu (aluminum interior). Both come out of the family-owned company's Missouri plants. TimberVu is the top of Quaker's wood offering, above Brighton, and it lives in a different market than Manchester or VuPoint vinyl — its peers are Kolbe VistaLuxe and Marvin Ultimate, the architectural lines we carry.

Configurations are the contemporary set: casement with roto or push-out hardware, awning, picture and direct set, a 90-degree corner window, and W-Series sliding and swing doors on 5-5/8" frames with Quaker's SolidCore panel barrier. Exteriors are powder-coated in-house to AAMA 2604 or 2605 in solids, textures and anodized-look finishes, or true anodized clear, champagne and dark bronze. Interiors ship natural, primed, or prefinished white or black, with a hardware palette that runs from matte black to oil-rubbed bronze. Grids are SDL or internal; screens are the removable FlexScreen with BetterVue mesh.

The Numbers That Matter

The September 2025 TimberVu brochure publishes these window ratings:

Air infiltration is 0.01 cfm/ft² across the board. The AW class is the architectural grade used on mid- and high-rise buildings; 12 psf water resistance is roughly double what residential-grade windows are tested to.

The bottom of each U-factor range is triple glazing. Dual-pane packages on the casement product page run: EnergyBasic 0.28 / SHGC 0.29, EnergyPlus 0.25 / 0.28, Energy 3S 0.28 / 0.19, EnergyMax 0.24 / 0.19, EnergyNorth 0.25 / 0.45, and the tinted EnergyEnhanced 0.25 / 0.17. Quaker also lists Energy 4S and 4S+ quad-silver packages and laminated units with STC 35 (dual) and STC 38 (triple), versus STC 32 for a standard 1" casement IG — useful along the Connector or near Gowen Field.

Sizing is where TimberVu separates from any clad-wood window: roto casements to 48" x 96", awnings to 72" x 84", direct sets to 144" x 144" or 216 united inches. The current ENERGY STAR 7.0 Northern bar of U 0.22 is met only by the triple-pane configurations; the NFRC label on your unit tells you which package you have.

How It Ages in Idaho — and What Usually Fails

TimberVu is a young line, so the long-term record belongs to its construction type: thermally broken architectural aluminum with a wood interior facing and large insulated glass. Windows of this construction commonly show the following over 10 to 25 years in zone 5B:

• Insulated glass seal failure on big lites. Large direct sets carry more thermal stress at the spacer than a 3-by-5 casement, and seal failure — fog, haze, a water line — is the dominant long-term repair. It is also the expensive one on 10- and 12-foot units, because the glass has to be craned or lifted in. The frame is unaffected.
• Interior wood finish and condensation staining. The Azo-Core barrier keeps the frame warm, but on a 10-degree morning with indoor humidity above 40%, the glass edge still sweats. That water runs onto the pine stool and bottom rail. Windows of this construction commonly show finish lifting and gray water stains at the bottom of the interior wood after a decade — cosmetic at first, and excluded from Quaker's no-rot warranty because it is interior condensation, not exterior moisture. Keep winter humidity in check and refinish before the stain sets.
• Hardware on heavy casements. Roto operators and concealed hinges on 48" x 96" sashes carry real weight; stiff cranking or a sash that no longer pulls tight to the weatherstrip is hardware wear in the second decade.
• Powder-coat chalking. AAMA 2604 dark exteriors on unshaded exposure commonly chalk after 12–15 years; 2605 holds longer. Cosmetic.
• Corner-key sealant and sill drainage. On aluminum frames the mitered corners and the sill weep path are the places to watch after 15 years, particularly on W-Series doors where debris blocks the weeps.
• W-Series door rollers and tracks. Sliding-door rollers flatten and tracks wear under a heavy panel; adjustable and replaceable.

Warranty and Service, Locally

Quaker's June 2024 residential warranty covers the original homeowner, non-transferable. TimberVu gets the one lifetime term in the document: a limited lifetime no-rot warranty on the interior wood against moisture from the exterior, for as long as the original owner lives in the home, provided weatherstrip and hardware are maintained. Insulated glass is 20 years (10 years and capillary tubes above 3,500 feet — relevant to McCall and Idaho City property). AAMA 2605 finishes are 20 years, 2604 finishes 10, anodized 5. Hardware 10 years; factory interior finish 1 year; labor 1 year.

Warranty claims go through Quaker and the dealer or builder that originally supplied the windows; an original owner with a fogged unit inside 20 years should start there, paperwork in hand. A second owner has no coverage.
