What the Brighton Actually Is
Brighton is Quaker's traditional clad-wood window: a specially treated radiata pine frame and sash on the inside, an extruded aluminum skin with a thermal break on the outside, and a 6" main frame that Quaker describes — accurately — as commercial-grade. The company's pitch is that Brighton carries up to 40% more wood than competing clad-wood lines, and when you hold a sash next to a Marvin Elevate or an Andersen 400, the pine sections are visibly heavier.
Quaker Windows & Doors has built windows in Freeburg, Missouri since 1949 and remains family-owned. Brighton is the mid-point of its wood offering: above the vinyl Manchester and VuPoint, below the OptiCore-framed TimberVu. In the wider market its peers are Andersen 400, Marvin Elevate, and the Kolbe and Windsor clad-wood lines.
The style list leans traditional, which is Brighton's point of difference from TimberVu: double hung and single hung to 54" wide and 103" tall, casement, casement picture, awning, hung picture, and direct-set units to 120" x 120". Doors include an inswing terrace door and sliding doors with either a French rail or narrow rail, on 4-9/16" or 6-9/16" jambs with 2-3/8" panels. Exteriors are powder-coated in-house to AAMA 2604 or 2605, in solid colors, textured finishes, or anodized-look clear, champagne and dark bronze; true anodized finishes are also offered. Interiors come clear-coated, primed or factory prefinished, with SDL or internal grids and aluminum-framed BetterVue screens.
The Numbers That Matter

On the double-hung product page the glass packages break out as: EnergyBasic 0.31 / SHGC 0.29, EnergyPlus 0.28 / 0.28, Energy 3S 0.31 / 0.19, EnergyMax 0.27 / 0.19, EnergyNorth 0.28 / 0.43. The pattern is the same across Quaker's lines — the room-side LoĒ-i89 coating in the Plus and Max packages buys about three hundredths of U-factor, and the triple-silver LoĒ³-366 in 3S and Max cuts solar gain by a third.
Be honest about where these land: a Brighton casement at 0.28–0.32 is a few hundredths behind Andersen 400 (0.26–0.31) and Marvin Elevate (0.25–0.30) on comparable glass. That is the trade for an all-aluminum exterior with a real thermal break rather than vinyl or fiberglass cladding. Structurally it goes the other way — LC-60 on a casement is stronger than most clad-wood competitors publish. None of the dual-pane packages reach the ENERGY STAR 7.0 Northern threshold of U 0.22; the label on your unit is the authority.
How It Ages in Idaho — and What Usually Fails
Clad-wood ages more gracefully than vinyl in the high desert, and the aluminum skin on a Brighton should shrug off UV for decades. The failure modes on windows of this construction — pine core, extruded aluminum cladding, dual-pane glass — over 15 to 25 years in zone 5B are predictable:
- Insulated glass seal failure. Fog or a moisture line between panes, south and west elevations first, usually in the 15-to-25-year window. The sash and frame are fine when this happens; the glass unit is done and can be replaced in place.
- Sill and lower-sash rot where water got behind the cladding. The aluminum skin is not the weather barrier at the joints — sealant, flashing and the sill-nose detail are. Windows of this construction commonly develop soft pine at the sill corners and the bottom rail of operating sashes where a flashing lap was missed at installation or the perimeter sealant opened after a decade of thermal movement. Probe the interior sill corners with a screwdriver every few years.
- Unfinished or under-finished interiors. Primed pine that never got its finish coats, or clear coat that thinned at the sill, checks and grays in single-digit winter humidity. Quaker's warranty excludes wood left bare beyond 30 days; the practical cost is sanding and refinishing before the checking gets deep.
- Crank operators, hinges and balances. Casement gearboxes get stiff, hinge arms sag, and hung-unit balances lose tension in the second decade. All routine.
- Finish chalking on 2604 powder coat. AAMA 2604 dark colors on unshaded exposure commonly show chalking and fade after 12–15 years; 2605 and anodized finishes hold up longer. Cosmetic, not structural.
- Weatherstrip compression. Drafts around sashes that used to seal snug.
Warranty and Service, Locally
Quaker's June 2024 residential warranty runs to the original homeowner and does not transfer. Insulated glass is covered 20 years (10 years above 3,500 feet, where capillary tubes are required). Aluminum finishes: 20 years for AAMA 2605 powder coat, 10 years for 2604, 5 years for anodized. Hardware 10 years. Factory-applied interior wood finish 1 year, and bare wood must be sealed within 30 days of installation or coverage is void. Labor is included for the first year.
Warranty claims go through Quaker and the dealer or lumber yard that originally supplied the windows; original owners with a fogged unit inside 20 years should start there with their paperwork. Once the house changes hands the warranty is gone, and rot from a bad flashing detail was never Quaker's to cover in the first place — it was the installer's.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does Quaker Brighton compare to the Andersen 400 Series?
Both are wood-core windows with a low-maintenance exterior, but the skins differ: Andersen 400 uses Perma-Shield vinyl cladding, Brighton uses extruded aluminum with a powder-coat or anodized finish, which reads more architectural and takes dark colors better. On thermal numbers Andersen has the edge — 400 Series tests 0.26–0.31 versus Brighton's 0.27–0.32 on operating units. Andersen's 20-year glass / 10-year component warranty is transferable; Quaker's is not. What does it cost to repair or replace Quaker Brighton windows?
A fogged insulated glass unit in a standard Brighton casement or double hung typically runs $300–$700 to replace; crank operators, hinges, balances and locks land around $150–$400 per window. Sill or sash repair where water has gotten into the pine is quoted per unit after we open it up. Full replacement with the clad-wood lines we carry — Andersen 400 Series or Marvin Elevate — generally runs $1,100–$1,900 per window installed depending on size, glass and finish.
Is radiata pine a good interior wood for Idaho's dry air?
It's fine when it's finished. Radiata is a plantation pine chosen for consistent grain and even paint and stain take-up; Quaker treats it and offers it clear-coated, primed or factory prefinished. Idaho's single-digit winter humidity will check any bare softwood, and Quaker's warranty excludes wood left unfinished more than 30 days after installation — so if your Brightons went in primed and the painter never came, the interior is the first thing to look after.
Brighton or TimberVu — which Quaker wood window do I have?
Brighton is a conventional clad-wood window: pine frame and sash wrapped in aluminum, with double hungs and single hungs in the line. TimberVu is Quaker's OptiCore construction — a 4-1/8" architectural aluminum frame with a polyurethane thermal barrier and a pine interior applied to the room side, rated AW, casement and fixed only. If you have a hung window with a pine interior and metal exterior, it is Brighton; if the frame is visibly aluminum at the sash edge with wood only on the interior face, it is TimberVu.
