Prime Window Systems Warranty: Lifetime Frame, 10-Year Glass & Labor

Coverage at a Glance

Terms below are taken directly from the manufacturer's written limited warranty. All periods run from the date of purchase from the retailer or dealer.

Prime Window Systems is the vinyl window we install in new construction across the Treasure Valley, and its warranty is written for that market. It runs to the first homeowner, it is not transferable, and it was rewritten for purchases on or after January 1, 2025 in ways that cut one term and added another. If you are buying a new house with Prime windows, or a builder asking what your buyers will inherit, this is what the current document says.

Who the Warranty Covers, and For How Long

The document defines the customer as the initial purchaser of the windows and the first consumer user of them. On a new home that means the builder who bought the units and the buyer who closes on the house, and the frame coverage is keyed to that buyer: the vinyl frame and sash are warranted free from blistering, peeling, flaking and decaying for the length of time the customer resides in the home. That is the lifetime in Prime's older "Limited Lifetime Warranty" title, a title the 2025 document quietly dropped. When that first homeowner sells, the coverage ends. The warranty is not transferable beyond the first consumer user.

Every other term runs from the Purchase Date, which Prime defines as the first date of its invoice for the goods unless the consumer can prove a later purchase date. On a spec home built in March and closed in September, the glass and hardware clocks started in March.

Glass: Ten Years, Down From Fifteen

Insulating glass is warranted free from material obstruction of vision on the internal surfaces of the unit for up to ten years from the Purchase Date. That is the seal-failure coverage, and it is the term that changed. Prime's documents for purchases between October 2022 and the end of 2024 gave insulated glass fifteen years; the 2025 revision took it to ten. Stress cracks are covered for one year. Glass breakage is not covered at all, and minor blemishes and slight glass curvature are excluded. Prime does not warrant the argon percentage at any point after manufacture and notes that gas dissipates faster in units built with capillary tubes.

The altitude clause is written around Prime's plants rather than sea level: glass is excluded when installed more than 5,000 feet above or below the point of manufacture unless it has capillary or breather tubes. Denver-built units sit near 5,280 feet, Union Gap units near 1,000, so the Boise valley is inside the band from either factory. Mountain jobs get breather tubes.

Hardware, Screens and Specialty Units

Hardware and mechanical components are warranted against breaking, peeling, flaking, rusting and blistering for five years, a term that has held since late 2022. Screens are excluded entirely, both the mesh and, since 2025, the screens themselves as a category. A group Prime calls Specialty Goods carries a flat ten-year term instead of the lifetime frame coverage: bay and bow units, garden windows, French and hinged doors, simulated divided lites, blinds between glass, laminated, obscure or decorative glass, and any painted, laminated or capstock exterior color. If your Prime windows have a dark exterior, the frame coverage is ten years, not lifetime.

Labor: New in 2025, and Idaho Qualifies

The one term the 2025 revision improved is labor. Older Prime documents offered parts and, at Prime's discretion, a refund, with nothing for the work. The current document adds that if the customer is inside Prime's Service Territory and the repair requires skilled labor, Prime's repairs will include performing or paying the reasonable cost of that labor. The customer remains responsible for all inspection, labor and shipping costs on any claim received more than two years after the Purchase Date, and for non-skilled labor at any time. Prime's published Service Territory map shows all of Idaho in territory.

Read the definition before counting on it. Skilled labor is work that requires knowledge, skill or tools the customer does not have, and Prime says outright that minor repairs, such as replacing a sash or a lock, do not qualify. Prime also owes no labor when it ships a complete replacement unit. Units not reachable with a 20-foot extension ladder require a customer-supplied lift. In practice this covers a glass unit swap in the first two years and little else.

Exclusions and the Claim Process

The exclusion list is long and typical of builder-grade vinyl: improper storage, installation or modification, accidents and weather, building settlement, harsh cleaners including brick wash and acetone, fading and color variation from weathering, coastal corrosion beyond five years on stainless hardware, exterior condensation, grille misalignment under an eighth of an inch, gradual inert-gas loss, damage from reflected sunlight, synthetic stucco walls without engineered drainage, and all removal, reinstallation, trim, finishing and disposal costs. Prime does not warrant thermal performance or NFRC ratings, and any field testing must come from an AAMA-accredited lab with twenty business days' notice. Non-payment of the purchase price voids the warranty.

Claims must be made within sixty days of the defect appearing, through Prime's online portal at prtwarrantyclaims.cornerstonebuildingbrands.com. The portal wants the order number from the tracking label on the unit and photos inside and out, and issues a case number by email.
