What the 9000 Series Actually Is

Prime Window Systems builds the Series 9000 as its premium new-construction vinyl window: a multi-chambered PVC frame 3-1/4" deep, fusion-welded at every corner, with an integral pre-punched nailing fin and a beveled exterior profile. The meeting rails on the single-hung and slider interlock and are reinforced with 18-gauge roll-formed galvanized steel, and the die-cast cam lock anchors into that steel rather than into vinyl alone. That is the detail that separates it from thin-wall builder vinyl — the parts that take abuse for 25 years are metal-backed.

Inside Prime's lineup it sits above the Series 6000 Slim Line (a 2-7/8" frame for retrofit and tight budgets) and alongside the Series 720 casement, awning and direct-set picture units that match its sightlines and mull with it in continuous head-and-sill assemblies. The Series 411 sliding patio door completes the package on a 4-9/16" frame, so window and door jambs land at the same depth in a 2x4 wall. For Wood Windows, this is our vinyl new-construction package — the window we spec with production and custom builders when the budget is real but the buyer is going to live in the house.

The Numbers That Matter

Prime publishes NFRC-certified U-factors for the whole 9000 line instead of hiding them behind a quote request:

The standard package clears the U ≤ 0.30 line we hold Treasure Valley homes to, and any unit can be ordered to ENERGY STAR criteria. Prime does not publish a line-wide SHGC, so we pull it from the NFRC label per opening at quote time.

Structurally, the published AAMA/WDMA/CSA 101/I.S.2/A440 classes are: single-hung H-LC35 at a 48" x 96" test size, horizontal slider HS-LC25 (132" x 60"), picture FW-C45 (96" x 60") and fixed FW-C55 (72" x 72"), casement C-C40, awning AP-C45, and SD-LC40 on the 411 door. Air infiltration is specified at no more than 0.1 cfm per square foot at 1.57 psf — a third of the 0.3 AAMA allows. The single-hung is tested to no leakage at 6.75 psf of water pressure and no damage at 52.5 psf structural load; the picture unit to 12 psf water and 67.5 psf structural.

Acoustical glass packages are available on the 9000. For serious noise — a flight path, an I-84 frontage lot — Prime's Silent Guard series is the real answer, and we can quote it alongside.

Where It Fits in Idaho — and Where It Doesn't

New construction is the 9000's home turf. The integral nail fin, modular callout sizing and continuous-mull assemblies are built for framers and window setters working a production schedule, and the tested air-infiltration number is the kind of thing that helps a builder pass a blower-door test the first time under Idaho's energy code. For a buyer, it means the house in a new Canyon or Ada County subdivision gets a window that won't need attention before the roof does.

Against Milgard Tuscany, our other vinyl: the Tuscany is a replacement-oriented retail window with a wider, stiffer frame and Milgard's Full Lifetime Warranty including accidental glass breakage. It costs more and is the better buy in a whole-house replacement. In a new build, where a builder is buying 25 to 40 openings and framing is sized around the window, the 9000's per-opening economics usually win without giving up energy performance. Milgard Trinsic is closer in price but narrower in frame and lighter in the meeting rail.

Against AMSCO (Salt Lake City), the vinyl many Treasure Valley production builders default to, the comparison is closer than the sales pitches suggest. AMSCO's Studio series runs a 3" frame and its Artisan a 3-1/4", with a limited lifetime vinyl warranty for the original owner and a five-year term for a subsequent owner. The 9000 matches the deeper frame, publishes a tighter air-infiltration spec, and — the part builders should weigh — is backed here by a dealer whose own employees set the windows. We have serviced plenty of AMSCO product; it is a fine window. The difference is who answers the phone in year eight.

Where the 9000 is the wrong call: dark exterior colors on an unshaded west elevation (bronze and black cap stock exist, but vinyl in that exposure is a fiberglass conversation), historic North End design review (vinyl won't pass), and any opening beyond the 48" x 84" single-hung maximum, where a fixed-plus-casement combination or a Marvin Elevate is the better answer.

Warranty and Service, Locally

Prime's current limited warranty, for purchases on or after January 1, 2025, covers the vinyl frame and sash against blistering, peeling, flaking and decay for as long as the original customer lives in the home; insulating glass against seal failure for 10 years; and hardware and mechanical parts for 5 years. Stress cracks are covered for one year, and the warranty is not transferable. That is a solid vinyl warranty, but it is not Milgard's glass-breakage coverage — we say so to buyers rather than let them find out.

The service side matters more than the paper. Wood Windows Inc has set windows in the Treasure Valley for 46 years with employee crews out of Garden City, and warranty service on a Prime window we installed is handled by us, not a phone tree in Denver. Builders get one call for punch-list items; the family who buys the house three years later gets the same.
