What the C700 Actually Is

The C700 is Milgard's fiberglass line as of January 2026, and it exists because the Ultra C650 had been on the market since the 1990s. Rather than tweak the old extrusion, Milgard built a new pultruded fiberglass platform and moved every fiberglass window and patio door onto it. If you've priced a Milgard fiberglass window in the last few years and were told "Ultra," this is the product that replaced it. We've installed C650 units across the Treasure Valley for well over a decade, so we have a real baseline to judge the new one against.

Fiberglass is worth understanding before the brand details. A pultruded frame is glass strands pulled through a resin bath and cured into a rigid profile. It expands and contracts at close to the same rate as the glass it holds, which is the whole reason fiberglass windows keep their seals longer than vinyl in a climate that swings from single digits in January to triple digits in July. It also takes a factory paint finish that vinyl can't, which is how Milgard offers the C700 in White, Black, Bark, Bronze, Adobe and Steel Gray with white or color-matched interiors.

Within Milgard's lineup the C700 is the top of the residential range: above the Tuscany V400 and V450 vinyl lines, and alongside the aluminum AX650 moving glass walls that share its color palette. In our showroom it competes directly with Marvin Essential and Elevate for the "I want dark frames that will still be straight in twenty years" buyer.

What Changed From the C650

Three things matter in the field:

The slimmer sightline is the one homeowners see. On a bank of three casements the C700 shows noticeably more glass than the C650 did in the same rough opening, and it lines up more cleanly with the AX650 moving glass wall if the two share an elevation.

The Numbers That Matter

Milgard publishes the C700's structural ratings by style and test size in its January 2026 performance chart. Casements test PG60 at 36 by 78 inches. Direct-set picture windows hold PG50 at 120 by 72. Single-hungs rate PG35 to 48 by 96, and horizontal sliders PG30 to PG35 depending on height. Awnings run PG40 to PG50. In plain terms: the operable styles a homeowner is most likely to put on a windy foothills elevation are rated well above the PG25–30 that satisfies most Treasure Valley builder specs.

Sizes are generous for a production window. Direct-set picture units go to 144 by 72 inches, casements to 36 by 78, and the sliding patio door runs to 120 by 96 in two panels, 144 by 96 in three, and 189-5/8 by 96 in four. Anything over 40 square feet ships open for field glazing and needs engineering sign-off, which we handle with the Milgard rep at quote time.

On energy, we're deliberately not printing a U-factor range yet. The C700 is new enough that Milgard's public literature gives a claim (up to 10 percent better than the C650) rather than a full thermal chart, and we don't publish numbers we haven't seen on a label. What we can say: the C650 tested 0.25 to 0.30 with SunCoat Low-E2 and argon, so a C700 with SunCoatMAX Low-E3 and argon should land comfortably inside the 0.30 target we set for zone 5B homes, and Milgard states the line meets ENERGY STAR 7.0 in every climate zone with the right glass. Every unit we sell carries its own NFRC label, and we quote those numbers line by line.

Where It Fits in Idaho — and Where It Doesn't

The C700 is the right window when the exterior color is dark, the openings are big, or the elevation faces west with no shade. Black and Bronze frames on a modern farmhouse in Star or a contemporary build in the Eagle foothills is exactly the job it was designed for. It's also the fiberglass we recommend when a homeowner wants Milgard's warranty terms and local service footprint but has been told vinyl can't do the color or the span.

It's the wrong answer in two situations, and we'll say so. On a straightforward whole-house replacement in a 1990s Meridian subdivision with white frames and standard sizes, the Tuscany V400 delivers the same energy numbers for meaningfully less money, and the fiberglass premium buys durability you may not need. And when the brief calls for a wood interior, a slim modern profile, or a size the C700 chart doesn't reach, Marvin Elevate or Andersen A-Series is the better conversation. A multi-brand dealer can put all three quotes on one page, and that's what we do.

Doors on the Same Platform

The C700 sliding patio door comes in two, three and four panels with a standard or flush-mount handle, and it's the door we spec when a slider needs to be 8 feet tall or 4 panels wide on an exposed lot where a vinyl frame would flex. The C700 in-swing French swing door with a multi-point lock is the only hinged patio door Milgard offers in Idaho, so if you want French doors that match Milgard windows, this is the line. Warranty and Service, Locally

Every C700 manufactured after January 1, 2026 carries Milgard's Lifetime Limited Warranty: frame and panel material for as long as the original owner lives in the home, insulated glass 20 years, hardware and painted finishes 10 years, and a 10-year term for later owners and rentals. The optional Full Lifetime upgrade adds lifetime glass and hardware coverage plus accidental glass breakage, and must be bought with the order.

Warranty paperwork only matters if someone shows up. If a C700 sash ever needs adjusting or a glass unit fogs, the people who installed it come back and fix it.
