What the Windsor Pinnacle Is
The Pinnacle is Windsor Windows & Doors' flagship clad-wood line: a solid wood interior — clear select pine, natural alder, or Douglas fir — wrapped in extruded aluminum cladding on the exterior, with a primed-wood version for painted applications. Windsor has built windows since 1946 out of West Des Moines, Iowa, and has been owned since 1987 by Woodgrain, the millwork company headquartered in Fruitland, Idaho. That Idaho connection is partly why Pinnacle windows show up in so many Treasure Valley custom and semi-custom homes built from the 1990s through the 2010s — builders here could get a genuine clad-wood window at a competitive price.
The line covers casements, awnings, double-hungs, gliders, direct-set picture units, specialty shapes, and matching patio doors, with standard and custom sizing that made it a favorite for one-off builder plans.

The Numbers, Honestly
Because Pinnacle units in the valley span roughly three decades of production, performance varies more by vintage than by style. Current Pinnacle configurations with dual-pane Low-E argon glass generally test in the neighborhood of U 0.26–0.32 on NFRC labels; units from the 1990s with earlier glass packages run meaningfully higher. Structural (DP) ratings also vary by size and production year. We don't guess at these numbers — every unit carries an NFRC label or a date stamp we can trace, and we verify per unit before recommending anything.
Windsor's published Pinnacle warranty is a 20/10: twenty years against insulated glass seal failure, ten on workmanship and materials, with optional extended coverage on the aluminum finish. Terms have changed over the years, so check your paperwork against the units in your walls.
What Goes Wrong After 20 Idaho Summers
Pinnacle frames hold up well — the aluminum cladding resists our high-desert UV far better than painted wood. What we actually get called about is predictable:
- IGU seal failure. Fog or moisture between panes, usually starting on south- and west-facing elevations. The frame is fine; the glass unit is done.
- Hardware and balance wear. Casement operators get stiff, double-hung balances let sashes drop, locks stop pulling the sash tight.
- Weatherstrip compression. Drafts around sashes that used to seal snug.
All three are repairable, and on a sound Pinnacle frame, repair is often the right call. When rot has crept into a sash, the cladding is breached, or half the house is fogging at once, replacement wins the math — and the closest carried equivalents we install are the Andersen 400 Series (clad wood, vinyl exterior) and Marvin Elevate (wood interior, fiberglass exterior). Both are honest peers to the Pinnacle, not downgrades.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Windsor Pinnacle windows are fogging between the panes. Can they be fixed?
Fogging means the insulated glass seal has failed. On a structurally sound Pinnacle frame, replacing just the insulated glass unit (IGU) is often practical and far cheaper than a full window — we do this regularly on clad-wood windows. If the sash wood has rot, the cladding is compromised, or several units are failing at once, full replacement usually pencils out better. We inspect and quote both paths honestly.
Is the Windsor Pinnacle still covered by warranty?
Windsor's published Pinnacle warranty is 20 years on insulated glass seals and 10 years on workmanship and materials, with terms that have varied over the years. Many Treasure Valley Pinnacles from the 1990s and early 2000s are now outside coverage.
